After a morning of taking PSATs and SATs, the Boonton High School student body took to the turf field for the 2023 fall sports pep rally.
The captains were introduced first and then their teammates joined them at midfield.
First up was the girls tennis team, which has four senior players, including Addison Dicang, who won her last two matches.
Other teams feted for their athletic endeavors on Oct. 11 were football, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, field hockey and unified sports. The cheerleaders performed during the pep rally.
A highlight of the football squad’s season was winning the Old Shoe Game versus Parsippany on Sept. 22. The team also prevailed in the opener, defeating Belvidere, 35-6.
Sylas White has accumulated 870 of the Bombers’ 1,665 rushing yards with one game remaining. Dylan Cannizzaro has amassed 87 tackles. Adem Qose has passed for 390 yards while Metin Ahmedi has converted 19-of-20 extra-point attempts. Ahmedi is the leading receiver with 276 yards.
Boys soccer has not broken through for a win yet but has shown promise with five one-goal setbacks. Four of those losses were in a span of Oct. 5 to 13. Junior Issa Kush has produced two goals and Landon San Martin has a goal and a pair of assists. Goalie Christina Fokas has 116 saves.
Anastasia Showler-Little has been an offensive force for Boonton, recording eight goals and two assists. Another freshman, Lacey Terwaarbeek, and a sophomore, Genesis Mila, share the goaltending duties.
The field hockey program has found success this fall, dominating in the Liberty Division of the NJAC and making it to the Morris County Tournament semifinals. Lila Maggio (12 Gs, 12 As), Kaylee Hughen (12 Gs, 7 As), Jocelyn Martinez (11 Gs, 3 As) and Elizabeth Harbeson (4 Gs, 11 As) have powered the Bombers’ attack. Tayla Szmak has notched 11 shutouts.
The rally concluded with bubble soccer.
