Boonton High School’s annual tailgate took place on Sept. 19, 2025 and the celebration brought together students, faculty and alumni for an afternoon and evening of fun and school spirit.

As always, tailgate featured a variety of activities including food tables, games, and music. Prior to tailgate, a pep rally was held on the turf field.

“Tailgate was really fun and it was a nice experience to see friends outside of school hours,” said Qendresa Asani, Class of 2026. “Now being a senior, it means that all my firsts will be my lasts. My last first day of school, my last homecoming, etc. The fact that this was my first and last tailgate I’ve ever been to, I truly regret not going to previous ones.”

Ajnur Asani, a freshman, was impressed by many aspects of tailgate, especially the food.
“It was fun,” she said. “People were trying new foods. I really liked seeing people so happy.”

One of the major highlights of homecoming weekend was the announcement of the queen and king at halftime of the football game. After a festive parade of nominees, the crown was awarded to Emma Bledsoe, whose classmates cheered in support. The crowning heightened the upbeat vibe and brought a sense of tradition to the evening.

Eighteen clubs and teams had tables at tailgate. Among the themes were Jersey Shore, Smart Cookies, Friday Night Lights and Walking Tacos.

Six participants were recognized for their involvement. The Class of 2028 had the best theme (Sideline Spooktacular) while the cheerleaders (Wild West) stood out for the most student involvement. The multicultural club (Celebrating Our Diversity) and BBC (Scooby-Doo) were chosen as most creative. Taking honors for best food and activities were Spanish club and field hockey. Chosen overall best was NHS.

For the second consecutive year, the softball squad had an impressive display. This time, Sliderz n’ Bowlz, a food truck co-owned by Mr. Hopkins, the head coach, was on hand. The group gave out French fries and bottled water.

“It’s a really fun event,” said Coach Hopkins. “We’re a group that likes to be seen. Being here helps us with recruiting.”

The BHS football team capped Friday’s festivities by taking the field for their highly anticipated football game against Hopatcong High School. The Bombers got off to a fast start and turned in an impressive performance and earned a 33-6 victory.

This win boosted the team’s morale and added to the joyful, upbeat atmosphere of homecoming weekend. Fans celebrated the win with chants and waved signs proudly throughout the stands.

On Saturday night, the homecoming dance was held at the Elks Club. Once again, it was an upbeat atmosphere.

The homecoming tailgate, game and other festivities underscored Boonton High School’s commitment to building school spirit and community engagement. The success of the event allowed the school to look forward to hosting more gatherings that celebrate its vibrant student body and rich traditions.
