The Class of 2026, anxious for redemption after losing twice in last year’s Powder Puff Tournament, claimed the championship with an overtime showdown against the juniors.

The title game was scoreless in regulation so rock-paper-scissors was used to determine how the extra period would start. The sophomores won and picked defense. They made the right choice as they stopped the juniors on the 5-yard line.

“Winning was great because of last year,” said sophomore wide receiver Mia Lobb. “We all knew what we were doing on our plays. There was good teamwork and everyone played. We wanted to win so badly.”

According to Phoebe Myers, Ms. Brennan, coach of the Class of 2026, recommended that her squad be on defense to open the OT.

“It was the right thing to do,” said Myers, who provided solid defense and played wide receiver, of choosing ‘D.’ “Defense was our strength. I think our offense was a little weaker. We just got on a person and made sure no one scored. We smacked the ball down. We weren’t going to let them score.”

Defensive standouts were Maryum Ahmed, who recorded several sacks, and Genesis Milla, whose tackling and blocking talents were on display.

The Class of 2026 had to dig deep in the first round versus the seniors, who scored the initial touchdown. The sophomores came back and got into the end zone three times while holding the Class of 2024 scoreless the rest of the way.

“The games were really fun,” Hailey Tuohy (D, WR) said. “The best part, of course, was winning. After the seniors scored first, we said ‘We can get it back it back and we did.'”

Although the sophomores felt their offense could have been more potent, it ran well under the direction of Kaylee Delgado. In the first round, Delgado had a keeper for a TD.

Lobb noted that the return of Ms. Brennan as coach had much to do with them taking top honors this spring.

“Ms. Brennan is so enthusiastic,” said Lobb, a softball and soccer player. “She got us hyped up and ready. We practiced during lunch and went over what she taught us last year. She helped us a lot. We put the trophy in her room.”
