Boonton High School’s AVID students experienced many aspects of college life when they went on a field trip to Seton Hall University on Feb. 13 .
There were many highlights, including dining in the campus cafeteria and touring the college, which is located in South Orange. The day was capped off by attending an SHU men’s basketball game against Georgetown at the Prudential Center.
Members of the AVID program love to visit different colleges and learn about what is offered and to take in the beautiful environments. AVID students are encouraged to attend college so these trips are beneficial. We also found out that college athletics are exciting.
“I think the students got a good idea of what it’s like to attend Seton Hall,” said Ms. DiTrolio, one of the AVID teachers. “We saw many parts of the campus and visited the dorms. Going to the basketball game added to the true experience of going to college.”
Taking trips like this helps build community and makes students feel connected to their school. Hopefully, students were inspired and will consider SHU when applying to colleges.
