On Friday, Oct. 5, Boonton High School gathered the local school community for its annual tailgate. This event took place prior to the varsity football game against Kinnelon High School, in which Boonton took a huge win (46-12). Many of our school’s clubs, organizations, and athletics set up tables with different varieties of food, and they each had their own unique theme as well. Some tables included ROAR (Respect Ourselves and the Rest), French and Spanish Club, and also ESL Club. The field hockey and soccer girls took part in this event as well, with one having a “Wild Wild West” theme and the other having a football theme. For the French and Spanish clubs, members set out multiple foods from their native countries, essentially allowing people to experience new cultural foods. Not only did each table have diverse selections of food, but as well as fun themes and games such as this year’s dunk tank provided by the FBLA Club. Each club had jars out to collect donations for Hurricane Florence, which caused a great amount of catastrophe in the month of September. This year’s tailgate was a great opportunity to bring everyone together for a night of fun. My friend commented that night, “We do these for each other, and we do it for others.” She was trying to say that we all came together on that day to not only enjoy ourselves but the company of others as well.
