As everyone knows by now, the New England Patriots won Super Bowl LIII against the Los Angeles Rams.  Most people wanted to see the Patriots lose and were backing the Rams because of previous accusations of the Patriots cheating.

The Patriots still had plenty of fans, even some in our school. Although the stadium itself was packed with fans of both teams, the Super Bowl this year was probably one of the most boring in the history of the game.

The score this year was Patriots 13, Rams 3. It was record setting in that both teams had the lowest point totals in a Super Bowl. That distinction used to be Super Bowl VII, the Miami Dolphins vs. the Washington Redskins, when the Dolphins prevailed with 14 points and Redskins had seven. The low scores, though, show that both teams played good defense.

Still, the Patriots, found a way to crack through the defenses and score where they were most vulnerable. The most memorable players this year are Stephen Gostkowski, who kicked a 42-yard field goal in the second quarter, Sony Michel, who scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Greg Zuerlein, who nailed a 53-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Along with how terrible the game was, I think we can all agree this year’s halftime show, which starred Maroon 5, was one of the worst. Not to mention that Maroon 5 was a last choice for the Super Bowl due to their solidarity and support of the Colin Kaepernick situation.

The only way to save the show was with Cardi B but she declined in solidarity with Kaepernick. To replace her, the organizers brought out Travis Scott to perform a quick solo of his hit song, “SICKO MODE,” due to its great popularity. Next, a Kanye West lookalike made an appearance.

There was controversy sparked online over two things: Lack of ethnicity in the marching band and background dancers and the fact that Maroon 5 lead singer, Adam Levine, took off his shirt during his performance. That normally wouldn’t be a problem but the backlash started when people pointed out that when Janet Jackson had an accident during her performance, she was banned.

Either way, the show was terrible and will leave us remembering what a tragedy and a waste of time it was.
